Miller Academy Coaching | Background
VISION
- As a (tiny) coaching company, Miller Academy is intentionally a for-profit (LLC) that does business to do good.
- At the core of Miller Academy's coaching lies an unwavering vision: to "engage, enlighten and empower"
- @ School: students K-12, educators and staff
- @ Home: children and parents
- @ Work: employers and employees
- @ Play: kids K-12 at their "after school" activities
- Miller Academy Coaching was founded by Gretchen Miller Johnson while teaching at Milton Academy in 1996.
- Gretchen is a graduate of BC's School of Ed, Harvard Grad School of Ed (and in 2021, she rejoined Milton's faculty)
- While building Miller Academy Coaching, Gretchen spent 30+ years as a tutor while also working in local media including: Boston Garden, Boston Magazine, Inc. Magazine, MC Communications, Plum TV, styleboston TV
- In 2013, Gretchen's husband Chris Johnson joined the practice as head of math tutoring and offered his business experience to scaled the practice
- Chris is a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology and has 20+ years of sales and marketing experience in technology consulting as the former EVP of Sales at AMR Research in Boston. He is also a self-proclaimed "math geek"

- Forge "influencer partnerships" with schools, families and companies to spread the word about our free (thoughtfully sponsored) coaching (with priority given to those from marginalized populations)
- Build a sponsorship salesforce of single parents, energetic elderly, college kids and teens (earning 25% of sales)
- Offer schools an opportunity to partner (50/50) with Miller Academy by:
- Inviting alumni of partner schools to sponsor our coaching
- Partner schools will receive 25% of sponsorship sales for capital campaign
- Plus an additional 25% will be allocated toward a free coaching fund for both academic and empowerment provided by Miller Academy tutors and coaches
- Inviting alumni of partner schools to sponsor our coaching
- Attain Certified B Corporation status as a company "using businesses as a force for good."
- Build a merchandise arm, from which 50% of profits will be allocated to free coaching for partner schools
- Expand coaching beyond Massachusetts: to all New England states, to major US markets, to major global markets.
